From the Smash Music Vintage Lineup of fretted instruments comes this Gibson Earl Scruggs Mastertone 5-string banjo.
Owned by a single owner in upstate New Hampshire, this Gibson was purchased new in 1995, maintained and used by our client until the early 2000’s. The nickel plating has been cleaned and shows some wear. This instrument is in excellent playing condition. The body and resonator are in excellent condition. Our tech has reviewed the instrument for playability and reliability. In 1949 Earl Scruggs sent his banjo back to the Gibson factory to have a new fingerboard installed, and it came back with the then-current 'bow-tie' inlay pattern. In 1992 a replica of this famous banjo joined the Gibson Earl Scruggs line as the '49 Classic.

For Sale: Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard, Greg Rich Era (sold) The serial number is 1138. This banjo is loud and definitely has that characteristic Gibson sound, thanks no doubt to changes Greg made at Gibson at that time.
